Alexander Grove became Scotland’s 1014th international player when he made his debut in the 23-10 win against Fiji in the Bank of Scotland Corporate Autumn series international at Murrayfield in November 2009, and he played in Scotland’s two other internationals that month, including the historic win against Australia. His promotion to the national team followed his participation in Scotland A’s success in the IRB Nations Cup in Bucharest five months earlier.
Alex previously played for Scotland at under-18, under-19, and under-20. His nine under-19 internationals in 2005-2006, included four in the world championship in Dubai. The following season he stepped up to make his under-20 international debut as left wing in Scotland’s match against England at Bath and went on to be an ever-present by playing in all five games in the championship. Further progress followed with two Scotland A appearances as inside centre in wins against Russia and France A in the IRB Nations Cup in June 2009.
The Rugby School former pupil, who is with Worcester Warriors, has played for Warwickshire at under-15 and under-17 levels and Scottish Exiles at under-17, under-18, and under-19, and he has competed in national swimming championships.
Alex qualifies for Scotland through his Glasgow-born grandfather, Ron Wylie, the former Aston Villa and Birmingham City footballer who became West Bromwich Albion manager.
