Hefin Bryn O’Hare joined Glasgow Warriors on a two-year contract in September 2005 as a convert back to Rugby Union after a sojourn with Huddersfield Giants in the Super League, where he had the reputation of searing pace. After three years with Warriors he qualified for Scotland under the International Rugby Board’s residence rule, and he won national honours for the first time when he played in the Hong Kong and Adelaide tournaments in the IRB Sevens World Series in March/April 2009. He also played in the Twickenham and Murrayfield tournaments in May that year and then the Dubai and George (South Africa) events at the start of the 2009-2010 series.
Before switching to Rugby League he had played age-grade internationals for Wales. While with Giants, he made his Rugby League international debut for Wales against the New Zealand tourists in 2002, and he went on to play in almost every game for his country from then until he signed for Glasgow. He made 17 of his 23 appearances for Glasgow in 2005-2006 on the wing before moving to outside centre for the last two months of the season.
