Scotland U19 put in a commanding performance as they saw off the challenge of Italy by scoring six tries in a 32-10 triumph that impressed coach Peter Wright. Wing Adam McKenzie was one of the stars of the performance with a hat-trick of tries, scrum-half Peter Jericevich managed a brace and flanker Ryan Wilson made sure the forwards got in on the action too.
And coach Wright praised his players' collective performance and highlighted the high tempo brand of rugby shown by his side against a strong Italian team. Wright said: "We played with a high tempo that the Italian’s struggled to deal with. We played a lot of rugby in our own half and having recognised the amount of space out wide we used it very well. “We were expecting them to be big and physical, but we dealt with them and had a lot more skill. We managed the game exceptionally well and dominated the Italians." Playing an open style of rugby against an Italian side that was unable to compete with the visitor’s skill levels, Scotland dominated the match from start to finish. Even the physical side of the game for which Italian sides have become well known went the way of the Scots. With Scottish forwards repeatedly winning the ball and providing quick possession the backs were able to move the play across the pitch and regularly found gaps to exploit. Leading by 20-3 at half-time, Scotland kept up the pressure after the interval, and despite a consolation Italian score comfortably closed out the match.
