Alison Macdonald won her first cap in the November 2007 match against Canada and her second against Sweden in January 2009. She played for the Scotland development team in 2002/03, 2003/04, 2005/06, and 2007/08. She made her first start for the national team against Sweden in the 2010 Rugby World Cup.
Before joining RHC, Alison played for Lismore. She was educated at Carinish Primary School and Paible School, both on North Uist, and Sgoil Lionacleit on Benbecula. She has a BEd (Hons) degree in physical education and is now a civil servant.
