MURRAYFIELD - THE PLACE TO BE
Friday, 27 January 2012
Scottish Rugby is beefing up pre-match entertainment at Murrayfield for the RBS 6 Nations Championship.
Music and come and try rugby skills zones will ensure there’s something for all age-groups as fans arrive at Scotland’s biggest stadium.

Leading the way for the opening match – the Calcutta Cup clash a week on Saturday – are the Red Hot Chilli Pipers, who have brought a new dimension to the bagpipes and proved such a hit when they were in Auckland, New Zealand at the same time as Scotland during the most recent Rugby World Cup.

Kevin MacDonald, one of the founder members of the band, said today: “International matches at Murrayfield are great occasions and when Scottish Rugby asked us along, we jumped at the chance.

“We’ll be playing a few tunes in the build-up to kick-off and really want to get the stadium buzzing.”

Director of Communications and Public Affairs Dominic McKay said: “There’s always a tangible air of excitement when fans enter Murrayfield and by enhancing our pre-match entertainment we hope to add to the day.

“We are asking Scotland supporters to wear something blue for the match against England next Saturday (4 February) and there will also be plenty of colour and fun with the pre-match activity we are organising.”

The Murrayfield car park will open at 1pm and turnstiles will open at 2.15pm for the Calcutta Cup match with is a 67,144 sell-out.

On entry to the stadium supporters will be entertained by pipes and drums, a brass band, Kilter, Sambalistic and Clann An Drumma.  Red Hot Chilli Pipers will play in the stadium itself from 4pm.  The match kicks off at 5pm.

On the artificial pitch behind the West Stand and adjacent to the car park there will be a come and try skills zone with agility tests and giant inflatables, while elsewhere around the stadium, Scottish Rugby sponsors, including Carling, EMC and Ford, will have additional fun displays.

Due to the tram works taking place at various locations around Edinburgh – but especially at Haymarket – fans are urged to allow extra time to reach the stadium.  Why not come along early and watch the preceding RBS 6 Nations match, France v Italy, (kick-off 2.30pm UK time) on the big screens?
