RBS 6 NATIONS ROADSHOW BEGINS
Monday, 23 January 2012

Scotland centre Graeme Morrison attended the launch of the RBS 6 Nations Roadshows 2012 at the National Wallace Monument today (Monday 23 January).

The RBS 6 Nations Roadshow initiative aims to reward rugby clubs across Scotland which have been performing well in their respective leagues and recognise the work they do in their local communities to support the game at club level.

The roadshows will visit six destinations during the RBS 6 Nations tournament:

  • Hillfoots RFC 23 January
  • Musselburgh RFC 9 February
  • Howe of Fife RFC 17 February
  • Aberdeenshire RFC 18 February
  • Preston Lodge RFC 22 February
  • GHK RFC 23rd February

Members of the local community and rugby fans are invited along to the events to take part in a Q&A session with current and former Scotland international players who will be sharing their unique experiences at the highest level of the game. Fans will also have the chance to get even closer to the action and get the opportunity to have their photo taken with the famous RBS 6 Nations Trophy.

Colin Thomson, Head of Community Rugby at Scottish Rugby, commented: “Club rugby is the lifeblood of the Scottish game and Hillfoots RFC were selected for the RBS 6 Nations 2012 Trophy Tour because of their passionate support of rugby at all levels of the game.

"With the great season they are having accompanied by their excellent youth set up, the club fully deserve Scottish Rugby’s and RBS’ support. This is why they have been chosen as the first destination of the tour."

Peter Norman, Hillfoots RFC Club President, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been chosen to host the first event of the RBS 6 Nations Trophy Tour 2012. It is a real honour and testimony to the work the club has done and how we have performed this season.”

Kath Boaler, Local CEO for RBS in Stirlingshire said: “As passionate supporters of the RBS 6 Nations we know that this time of year is the highlight in every rugby fan’s calendar. We are playing our part by giving Scottish fans the chance to get up close and personal with their rugby heroes and the famous RBS 6 Nations Trophy.

"We want to make sure that communities across Scotland have the chance to share the benefits of our involvement with the RBS Six Nations and Scottish Rugby, and I’m delighted that local rugby fans in the area will get the opportunity to see the trophy and meet Chris and Andy. "

RBS became the Principal Partner of Scottish Rugby in 2011 and has, over the past year, worked closely with the governing body to grow the game at a community and grassroots level through the RBS Club Rugby support programme and the RBS RugbyForce initiative. Last week they announced Chris Paterson as the new captain of the RBS Rugby Club. The initiative, the first of its kind in Scotland, helps more customers benefit directly from the partnership with Scottish rugby while at the same time enhances support and awareness of the game in Scotland.
