Fraser Rolland McKenzie represented Scotland A five times in 2010, coming on as a replacement against Ireland before featuring in all three IRB Nations Cup games and starting in the 25-0 win over USA Eagles in November 2010. He was back in the second row for the 32-13 success against Ireland Wolfhounds in January 2011 and the 11-3 win over Italy A the following month.
McKenzie marked his Scotland under-20 international debut with a try in the Falkirk match against Wales in February 2007. That added to his international honours at under-18 level the previous season, and two months after his under-20 debut he completed the age-grade set by leading Scotland in all five matches in the IRB’s under-19 world championship in Belfast. In November 2008 he took a further step up the ladder with his debut for the Scotland sevens squad in the IRB world circuit tournaments in Dubai and George (South Africa). Fraser’s 2007 age-grade internationals highlighted his versatility – lock forward in his three under-20 games, and blind-side flanker in his five under-19 matches. In that latter position he was an ever-present in Scotland’s team in the 2008 under-20 Six Nations Championship, and he also played in all but one of the five games in the IRB Junior World Championship in Wales in June that year.
Fraser played for the Dunfermline club’s first XV when he was 16, and in January 2006 he was in the Dunfermline team who contested the Lloyds TSB Scotland Youth League Cup final. Three months later he was in the Scotland squad in the Home Unions’ under-18 tournament in Gloucestershire, and he subsequently was enlisted by Edinburgh Rugby as an apprentice. A full-time contract followed in summer 2008. He has played for Fife at under-15, under-16, and under-17 and Caledonia Reds at under-16 and under-18 as well as Scotland under-18 and under-19. The Queen Anne High School former pupil’s father, Grant, is the Dunfermline club’s president. |
