GAIL JOINS THE STARS
Wednesday, 13 October 2010

Two lucky Scotland supporters will join the playing luminaries of now and yesteryear at the inaugural glittering Scottish Rugby Hall of Fame dinner next month.

Gail Jackson was entered into a random draw when she joined the thousands of supporters who voted online on the Scottish Rugby website for their Scotland player of the 1990s to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Scotland head coach Andy Robinson – who will be joined by members of the current Scotland squad – at the star-studded Hall of Fame dinner at Murrayfield Stadium on Thursday 4 November, drew Gail’s entry.

Gail, from Morecambe, Lancashire, who works as an online shopper for Sainsbury, will be joined by her husband, Nigel, at the dinner.  “That’s fantastic,” she said.  “I certainly didn’t expect to win.

“My family’s from Falkirk and we try to get up as often as we can to watch Scotland.

“We’ve already got our tickets for the New Zealand game and we were up during the Six Nations and attended the open training session at Murrayfield where we met some of the players and coaches.  Getting their autographs and photographs was a brilliant end to my 40th birthday celebrations,” she explained.

Scotland are currently ranked seventh in the world rankings – their highest position since the rankings were established – and the players will attend the dinner ahead of their Autumn Tests against New Zealand, South Africa and Samoa.

Scottish Rugby is establishing the Hall of Fame to honour those iconic figures who have shaped the sport’s rich history in Scotland over the last 140 years.

The Hall of Fame panel (which includes five times British and Irish Lions coach, Sir Ian McGeechan, fellow British Lions and Scotland internationalists John Beattie, John Jeffrey and Chris Rea, and the doyen of Scottish rugby writers and former Scotland hooker, Norman Mair) have chosen 11 of the first 12 inductees all having made an outstanding contribution to the oval ball game.  The 12th was chosen by Scotland supporters from an era also selected by supporters – the 1990s.

The inaugural Hall of Fame dinner, which will be preceded by a champagne reception, will be hosted by renowned broadcaster Dougie Donnelly with special guest speaker the satirist and celebrated impressionist, Rory Bremner.

You, too, can still attend the dinner, though tickets are selling fast. They are available at £149 + VAT pp or £1,490 + VAT for a table of 10.
