WE CAN WIN ANY GAME - KELLOCK
Sunday, 20 June 2010

Scotland captain Alastair Kellock is not given to hyperbole.  He’s more one for your cool-headed analysis, even in the immediate aftermath of Scotland’s historic 2-0 series victory against Argentina courtesy of a 13-9 success in Mar del Plata tonight.

But Kellock summed up the self-belief evident within the squad and echoed the mantra of head coach Andy Robinson whose charges now accept that they are in control of whether they win or lose international matches.

“If you had asked anybody before the Croke Park game ‘Four on the bounce?’ they would have said no,” Kellock acknowledged in looking back at the sequence which has seen Scotland defeat Ireland (23-20), Japan, in a non-cap game (24-5), Argentina in the first Test in Tucuman last weekend (24-16) and now tonight’s second Test success.

But there was then a hint of the steely determination that has been such a part of this squad’s make-up when Kellock ventured: “We can win any game.  In saying that there is world-class opposition out there and they are only going to get stronger and stronger.”

Kellock’s second-row partner, Jim Hamilton, picked probably as good a day as any to score his first try for his country.

“It’s great to score my first try for Scotland especially against a good side like Argentina,” he admitted.  Hamilton paid tribute to the entire squad, a point endorsed by stand-off Dan Parks, who weighed in with eight points today.

“We believe what we are building here.  It’s something really special and I’m just fortunate to be part of it,” he stressed.
