Rugby players over 35 have been offered the chance to showcase their skills at the home of Scottish Rugby as part of the back pitch festival of rugby that complements both days of the Emirates Airline Edinburgh 7s.

Former Scotland internationalist and event ambassador Roy Laidlaw joined Scotland 7s player (and nephew) Greig Laidlaw to announce that a 32-team Golden Oldies festival will take place on day one (Saturday 29 May).

Tickets for the Emirates Airline Edinburgh 7s are available now for just £15 for adults (advance purchase offer), £10 for students and £5 for under-18s at www.edinburgh7s.com and the 24-hour ticket hotline (0844 335 3933) - tickets are also available on the day.

Roy Laidlaw said: "The festival on the back pitches is a key part of the light-hearted off-field atmosphere at the Edinburgh sevens - with Murrayfield's back-pitches offering a chance to relax, eat, drink and party outside the stadium bowl.

"The festival of rugby creates such a buzz around an already action-packed international sevens event and makes the Murrayfield leg really stand out from the crowd."

Thousands of party-goers from around the world enjoy the finale of the IRB Sevens World Series at Murrayfield which is supported by a massive rugby tournament on both days, meaning the whole stadium grounds, inside and out, are taken over by sevens fun in the summer sun.

Treasurer for Golden Oldies Scotland, Don Burns, added: "A lot of folk have been to Murrayfield before but to actually play at the home of Scottish rugby will be like being a kid again.

"A couple of years ago Golden Oldies rugby was a bit of an unknown in Scotland but our festivals have really opened people's eyes to the game - having an event on Murrayfield's back pitches will really showcase the fun of Oldies rugby."
