Scott Lawson made his Six Nations debut as a replacement in Scotland’s 20-16 victory over France in the opening match of the 2006 championship and started in the following match against Wales. He scored his first try for Scotland on his cap international debut in 2005 against Romania in Bucharest, and his first World Cup appearance also was marked with a try, when Scotland beat Portugal two years later in St Etienne. After the World Cup, however, he did not return to the Scotland squad until the final match of the 2008 RBS 6 Nations Championship, when he played as a replacement against Italy in Rome. It was two years before he tasted national action again, off the bench for four of Scotland's Six Nations encounters of 2010.
A fortnight before the 2005 Bucharest match he had made his first senior Scotland appearance in the non-cap 38-7 victory against the Barbarians. In November 2006 he added to his cap appearances as a replacement in the Bank of Scotland Corporate international against Romania at Murrayfield.
Ten days later he marked his first appearance in the Scotland A team by scoring a try against Australia A at McDiarmid Park, Perth. In May and June 2007 he played in all three of Scotland A’s Churchill Cup matches in England, scoring a try against Ireland A. Two further appearance at that level followed in February 2008, when he played as a replacement in the wins against Italy A (37-15 at Mogliano, near Venice, and Ireland A (67-7 at McDiarmid Park).
He has now played 12 times for Scotland A, including all three matches in the IRB Nations Cup success in Bucharest in June 2009, when he scored two tries, one each against Russia and Uruguay. Five months later he was in the Scotland A team who beat Tonga 38-7 at Netherdale, Galashiels.
A former pupil of Biggar High School, Scott played club rugby with Biggar and Melrose before he joined Glasgow Warriors in season 2003-2004. he moved from Glasgow to Sale Sharks in summer 2007 and then to Gloucester in September 2008.
Scott captained Scotland under-18 and went on to play under-19 and under-21 international rugby. His under-19 honours included playing in all four of Scotland’s matches in the IRB/FIRA world championship in France in 2000, and he was awarded the David McGavin Trophy as Scotland’s under-21 player of the year in 2002. He has also played for Edinburgh under-16, under-18, and under-19.
