Thom Henry Evans scored his first try for Scotland in the RBS Six Nations Championship match against France in Paris in February 2009. That was also the occasion when he and his elder brother, Max, became the 20th fraternal pair to play together for Scotland. Three months earlier they had become the 45th set of brothers to play for Scotland, when Max made his debut against Canada at Pittodrie Park, Aberdeen.

Thom made his Scotland debut when he played on the left wing in the first Test of the two-match series in Argentina in June 2008. Further caps followed five months later in the Bank of Scotland Corporate Autumn Tests against New Zealand and South Africa at Murrayfield. Because of injury he missed the subsequent win against Canada, the match in which Max won his first cap. Thom joined Glasgow Warriors in summer 2006 after two years with London Wasps, and he soon made an impact scoring three early tries against Moseley in the first pre-season warm-up match. His competition debut followed against Newport Gwent Dragons at Hughenden on the Magners League’s opening day. International recognition quickly followed when he played for Scotland A in the November match against Australia A at McDiarmid Park Perth.

He made his Scotland sevens debut in the IRB’s 2006-2007 world series tournament in Wellington, New Zealand, and he remained in the squad for the USA event in San Diego a week later. In that latter tournament he scored a try in the excellent win against Argentina, and he followed that up with two tries against West Indies, when victory ensured that the Scots qualified for the cup quarter-finals. He also played for Scotland in the IRB London sevens in May 2009, his third cap in the abbreviated game.

Thom had two more games for Scotland A in the Churchill Cup tournament in England in May/June 2007, scoring a try against Ireland A. He had another try in his next game at that level, the 37-15 win against Italy A at Mogliano, near Venice, in February 2008, and he added to his tally at that level in the 38-7 win against Tonga at Galashiels in November 2009. The 2007 Churchill Cup was followed by his inclusion among five uncapped players in Scotland’s squad for World Cup preparation, and though he was not selected for the tournament itself he returned to the Scotland squad for preparation for the 2008 RBS Six Nations Championship.

He added to his tally of Scotland A appearances by playing in the 38-7 win against Tonga at Galashiels in November 2009. He was back in the national team eight days later for his eighth cap against Argentina in the final match of the Bank of Scotland Corporate Autumn Tests at Murrayfield.

The former England under-21 wing/full back is known for his impressive pace having been a 100m and 200m sprinter at England Schools level. Also a keen golfer, he has played for the South at under-16 level, and in rugby he has represented England at under-16 and under-18 levels as well as being a member of the national sevens squad. He joined Wasps’ academy squad directly from school (Wellington College, Berkshire) 2004. His Premiership debut for the London followed against Worcester in April 2005, and he marked his first start for England under-21 by scoring two tries against Scotland at Falkirk in February 2006 in the shadow six nations tournament. He is Scottish-qualified as his maternal grandfather, Fred Thom, was born in Glasgow. Before taking up rugby full time, Thom was a member of pop band Twen2y4Se7en and toured as a support act with McFly, Peter Andre and Westlife throughout 2004.
