CUSITER: WE DIDN’T FINISH THINGS OFF
Saturday, 28 November 2009

Scotland captain Chris Cusiter admits the team were left kicking themselves after failing to finish off a handful of try-scoring opportunities against World Cup semi-finalists Argentina with the national side eventually losing narrowly 9-6 at Murrayfield.

The home side accumulated a six-point half-time lead and dominated the first period with an enterprising brand of rugby.

But Argentina clawed their way back to level the score before snatching a victory courtesy of a late drop-goal from Martin Rodriguez.

Afterwards, scrum half Cusiter acknowledged that the team had squandered chances and not reaped the rewards for the progress they had engineered on the pitch.

Cusiter said: “We produced some great build-up work, but we just didn’t finish things off and that is what cost us.

“I don’t doubt that we have the skills to finish things off, but we just weren’t able to execute under pressure.

“We created and played some good rugby, but we just weren’t able to finish things off.”

Nevertheless the Glasgow half-back believes the Bank of Scotland Corporate Autumn Tests overall have been a beneficial experience for the team and a step forward.

He added: “We have definitely made progress and had two wins against teams above us in the world rankings. We will go back to our clubs and work to improve ahead of the 6 Nations.”
