Matthew Lee Mustchin made his Scotland debut in the defeat by Argentina in Rosario in June 2008, but he continued in the starting team to enjoy the series-levelling victory in Buenos Aires a week later. His Murrayfield debut followed as a replacement five months later in the Murrayfield match against New Zealand.

Matt played for Ulster from 2003 until 2005, when he joined Edinburgh. Since then the Christchurch-born forward has become well established in the Edinburgh squad as well as qualifying for Scotland through the IRB’s three-year residence rule. He made his fiftieth appearance for Edinburgh when he played in the Heineken Cup match against Toulouse in January 2008, and near the end of his best season yet in Scottish rugby he deservedly won the man of the match award in the Magners League win over Leinster in April.

In March 2006 Matt made a try-scoring debut for the Barbarians in the invitation club’s 52-42 win against Leicester at Welford Road. He has represented New Zealand at under-16 and under-19 levels and played a Super 12 game for Canterbury Crusaders in 2002.
