| Description |
| Murrayfield still holds the record for the highest attendance at a rugby game, with 104,000 spectators having packed into the ground to watch an international between Scotland and Wales in 1975. The imposing stadium dominates the Edinburgh skyline to the west of the city centre, only a couple of miles from Edinburgh Castle in Scotland's capital city. The ground was purchased from the old Edinburgh Polo Ground at Murray's Field in 1922 for a sum of £3,800, but when a new-look Murrayfield was opened in 1994 by the Princess Royal its redevelopment, which took 12 years to complete, cost in excess of £40million. The stadium is within comfortable walking distance of the city centre and, with plenty of pubs and restaurants en route, a trip to Murrayfield is one of the social highlights of the RBS 6 Nations calendar.
